Connecting a native WireGuard Android VPN client

Christopher Dakin

Installation and configuration of the Android VPN client can be done from the LogonBox VPN UI.

1. Configuring the client

From a desktop browser, navigate to https://<logonboxserver> and log on with your created user into the User Portal.

You should be presented with the Overview page.

Below this though will be the Google Play link for Android which you can use to remote install onto your phone (or just search for LogonBox VPN Client in the Play store).

You can choose to download a client for another OS by clicking the dropdown and selecting which client you need.

As we are using the WireGuard third party client, first click on the Devices tab, then on the Use 3rd Party Client link at the bottom.

First, enter a name for this connection and click Next.

Now, we need the client configured.

There are 3 options to get the config - A QR code, the Raw config file text, click the Download Configuration button.

On an Android device, we can use the QR code if we log into the VPN from a desktop browser.

Launch the Wireguard client on your device, installed in step 1, where you should be presented with a blank page.

Click the Blue + button.

Select Scan from QR code and scan the QR code on your desktop page.

Give the tunnel a Name and select Create Tunnel.

The configuration is now imported.

2. Connecting the client

Now you can connect the client up by sliding the connection slider to the right of your configuration.

The client should have a VPN connected key icon in the status bar and the slider should be blue, you are now connected.
