The LogonBox VPN Setup Wizard

Christopher Dakin

After you have deployed your LogonBox VPN server and booted the system up, the first step is to visit the web GUI on https://<your hostname>.

As this is your first visit to the server, you must now complete the Setup Wizard to give you an initial configuration of the server. This article will guide you through this process.

1. License Agreement

Review the license agreement and tick the I accept the terms of the license agreement tickbox when satisfied.

Click Next to continue.

2. Set Password

You now need to configure the administrator account which will have full System Admin privileges.

First, choose a username you want for this account (e.g: admin).

Then choose and confirm a password. Ensure that this is a strong password as this is the most sensitive account on the system.

There is a Local Account Default Password Policy which is displayed below the password, which you must match in order for the password to be accepted (this policy may be changed later if you wish).

Click Next to continue the wizard.

3. Configure External Access

In order for the server to be able to get access to product updates and installable features, it must be able to connect outbound to the internet.

If the server already has connectivity, just click Next to continue.

If you need to connect out via a Proxy Server instead, tick the I need to configure the proxy settings to allow access to the update server box.

Set the Proxy Type to either HTTP or SOCKS, then enter the Proxy Host and Proxy Port, then click Next.

4. Registration Details

Enter your Name, Company Name and Email address to register your product with our servers and click Next.

5. External address

LogonBox VPN needs to know the external address that the clients will be connecting to. There are 4 options available, which either may require a Port Forward to be configured, or by using UPnP.

Use Web Service - This option detects which public IP address outbound connections from this server connect from and automatically displays the IP address in the box below.

Use UPnP - For comsumer routes, there may be a UPnP option to automatically configure everything.

Manually Provide Address - Manually type in the external address. This can be used if you want to enter a hostname that is mapped to your external IP address.

Setup address later - Configure the address later as admin in the main UI.

Select the appropriate option and click Next.

6. Download/Install Components

Click Next to connect to the LogonBox update servers to get the latest required components for the server.

7. Scheme Setup

You can choose to do a quick setup of 2-Factor Authentication here. If you prefer to do this later, just click Next and continue to step 9.

If you want to configure this now, first select which authentication scheme you would like to apply the settings to, either the web User Logon, or the LogonBox VPN Client logon.

Click Next to continue.

Select which authentication options you want to provide to your users (minimum of 2, no maximum). Your users can then choose which of these authentication methods they prefer to use for authentication.

Click Next.

8. Authentication Setup

9. Setup Complete

You have now completed the Setup wizard. Click Restart to restart the service.

When the service has restarted, you will be presented with the Login page, where you can then log in with your admin account.
