What is the Audit Log?

Ashley Grant

The Audit Log can be found in the Reports menu of your LogonBox system. This will track all of the events that are performed by the system and report on their success or failure. The Audit Log can direct you to knowing if a particular configuration is correct, or if there are any issues preventing proper functionality. For example if an email hasn't been sent and if it's due to the user not having an email address set or the mail server cannot be contacted, or if the user directory has gone down.

Logs Tab

The Logs tab initially displays the default output of the Audit Log depending on the filters that are configured at the time, by default this will generally be all events for the current day. You can change the displayed output by adjusting the filters and date ranges. To see more information from previous days change the When option to the desired option or choose a date range.

In the Audit Log output you can also dig deeper into each event by expanding it to see more details. For example expanding a Session Opened event would give the following details.

Filters Tab

The Filters tab allows for configuration of additional filters to be used to display specific information in the Audit Log. To create a new Filter select the Create option and you'll be taken through the creation process. You can also Edit, Copy, or Delete existing filters.

To create a custom Filter, see this article.

Settings Tab

The Settings tab allows for more configuration of what the Audit Log tracks and how long to archive the logs for.

By default, any events will be archived after 90 days and will be deleted after 365 days.

It's also possible to configure pop-up notifications in the user interface for an admin that is logged in when specific types of events occur.
